About data sharing events

From Data Sharing Summit

The first Data Sharing Summit was in September 2007. More than 60 people from a whole range of companies came together to tackle the problem of how people's data can move around the web under their control. This event complemented the Internet Identity Workshop and other efforts from the preceding years.

Our purpose is to provide gathering spaces in which all parties interested in working on the challenge of data sharing can work together.

The format we use means the agenda is created the day it happens. It is about getting things done and figuring out the tough problems. There is no committee deciding who does or does not get to ‘present’. Instead, Open Space is about breaking up into groups, really diving in and figuring out the solutions, and building consensus to get adoption.

Emerging Initiatives

Some emerging initiatives include:

Event Organizers

Kaliya Hamlin volunteered to help facilitate the first Data Sharing Summit instigated by Marc Canter in July 2007. The upcoming Data Sharing Workshop and Summit are being produced by Kaliya Hamlin and Laurie Rae.

We are collaborating with the people participating in dataportability.org. As with previous events in this field, 85% of the time will be spent in Open Space format, the unconference format where attendees create the agenda in real time.
